About the position

Crown has expanded its aluminum can end manufacturing facility in Winchester, VA, and is seeking a Quality Control Gauger to join our team. This state-of-the-art facility operates at high speed and serves some of the top consumer product companies. The Quality Control Gauger will play a crucial role in ensuring that our manufacturing processes meet the highest standards of quality and safety. The starting hourly rate for this position is $22.40/hr, and in addition to competitive pay, Crown offers comprehensive benefits, including free company-paid health insurance for employees. The Quality Control Gauger will report directly to the Quality Control Manager and will be responsible for a variety of tasks that ensure the quality of our products. This includes effectively communicating informed and analytical information to mechanics and management teams, interpreting paperwork and schedules, and operating controlled machines. The role requires a keen eye for detail and the ability to complete routine written documentation. The Gauger must ensure that all processes are within specification both dimensionally and visually at all times. This includes understanding and interpreting end specifications, metal thickness, pallet details, and various testing procedures. Candidates for this position must be flexible and able to work all shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as well as overtime hours when required. The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma or GED, with a preference for those with quality and manufacturing experience. Safety and quality are top priorities, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, both independently and as part of a team, is essential. Cross-training and multi-skilling in other functions will be expected of any new hire. The role demands excellent problem-solving skills, time management, and communication abilities, as well as a detail-oriented approach to work.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively communicate informed and analytical information to mechanics and management teams.
  • Read, understand, and interpret paperwork and schedules.
  • Operate and interpret controlled machines and have knowledge about gauges.
  • Complete routine written documentation.
  • Ensure all processes are within specification both dimensionally and visually at all times.
  • Understand and interpret end specifications, PO's, metal thickness, pallet details, and various testing procedures.
  • Take care of the overrun area and complete blush tests.
  • Trace and find the beginning of defects on pallets and production lines.
  • Restock, repair, sort, scrap, and visually inspect pallets.
  • Comprehend Statistical Process Control and interpret control charts.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Quality and manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Exhibit safety and quality as top priority.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced work environment, both independently and as a team player.
  • Detail-oriented and very accurate.
  • Flexibility to work any shift and overtime as required.
  • Problem-solving skills through individual and/or collaborative approaches.
  • Excellent time management skills and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
