About the position

The Associate Director - Head of Quality Control (QC) at Lonza is responsible for leading the QC function at the site, implementing strategies that align with the company's quality and financial goals. This role emphasizes continuous improvement initiatives to enhance regulatory compliance and customer satisfaction while fostering a positive culture within the QC organization to improve employee satisfaction and retention.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the QC strategy for the site.
  • Ensure quality and delivery meets or exceeds internal stakeholder and customer expectations.
  • Oversee raw materials testing, in-process and finished product testing, environmental monitoring and microbiology, stability testing, method transfer and validation, instrument and software qualification, QC data integrity, sample management, and QC document management.
  • Develop and execute continuous improvement initiatives to meet key performance indicator goals.
  • Collaborate with Program Management, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing Asset leadership, and customers to support project teams throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Build and maintain expertise in the QC organization, ensuring ongoing development of staff.
  • Manage the QC budget process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science or Engineering field.
  • Significant leadership experience in Quality.
  • CDMO experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to present ideas publicly to inform, educate and influence others positively in achieving business results.
  • Ability to interpret data and direct actions based on insights.
  • Strong prioritization and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in directing, controlling, and planning tasks/projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to relate well to others in a team setting.
  • Active listening skills to understand and be understood.
  • Experience in coaching and managing both experienced and inexperienced staff.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and emotional composure in a team environment.
  • Timeliness in completing assigned tasks.
  • Ability to make quality decisions independently and with guidance from the Director.
  • Experience in mentoring and leading direct reports.
  • Ability to deliver difficult messages to staff, such as disciplinary actions or poor performance plans.
