About the position

Mueller Company, the nation's leading manufacturer of flow control devices for the water and gas distribution industries, is seeking a Quality Control Technician to join our team in Decatur, IL. Established in 1857, our Decatur Operations manufactures rugged and dependable devices used in industrial and commercial applications. Our product line includes brass water and steel gas valves, water/gas line tapping machines, line stopper fittings, tools, and controllers. As a Quality Control Technician, you will play a crucial role in sustaining and enriching the lives of every human being by ensuring the quality of our products. In this role, you will be responsible for completing a variety of Quality Assurance and Quality Control tasks, which include taking measurements, performing inspections, and conducting tests. You will provide direct quality support for specified processes utilizing specialized equipment, making you the primary individual responsible for measuring product and process quality. Your duties will involve performing measurement, inspection, testing, and data duties in a safe and time-efficient manner. You will demonstrate proficiency in using inspection, measuring, and test equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, indicators, and electronic and functional gauges, while also recording data, charting measurements, and monitoring trends. Additionally, you will need practical experience in blueprint reading, understanding component configurations, critical and reference dimensions, and determining tolerance allowances. Strong math skills, written and verbal communication abilities, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with basic to intermediate computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office and ERP systems. Problem-solving skills are crucial, as you will need to identify the root cause of issues using systematic and logical steps, applying judgment based on precedence and experience. You will also support production quality processes and procedures to maintain consistency, decrease variation, increase throughput, and eliminate customer dissatisfaction. Your role will require you to interact with operators, supervisors, managers, planners, and engineers to quickly resolve issues and ensure that only acceptable and conforming products exit the production cell. You will also be responsible for working with materials, engineering, operations, quality, and leadership to obtain disposition of nonconforming products. This position may require you to perform job duties on the primary shift and work overtime as needed to support production demands.

Responsibilities

  • Complete a variety of Quality Assurance and Quality Control tasks including taking measurements, performing inspections, and conducting tests.
  • Provide direct Quality support of specified processes utilizing specialized equipment.
  • Measure product and process quality as the primary individual responsible for quality measurements.
  • Perform Measurement, Inspection, Test & Data duties in a safe and time-efficient manner.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using Inspection, Measuring & Test Equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, indicators, and electronic & functional gauges.
  • Record data, chart measurements, and monitor trends in quality metrics.
  • Read blueprints and understand component configurations, critical & reference dimensions, and tolerance allowances.
  • Identify and support Production Quality Processes and Procedures to maintain consistency and decrease variation.
  • Interact with operators, supervisors, managers, planners, and engineers to resolve quality issues quickly.
  • Ensure that only acceptable and conforming products exit the production cell.
  • Work with Materials, Engineering, Ops, Quality, and Leadership to obtain disposition of nonconforming products.
  • Perform job duties on primary shift and work overtime as needed.

Requirements

  • 3 years of progressive work-related manufacturing/industrial experience with demonstrated proficiency in the discipline/technology/process related to the position.
  • Minimum education requirement: High School diploma/GED.
  • Desirable: Associate's degree or Technical Institute degree/certificate or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
  • Strong math skills and proficiency in written and verbal communication.
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills required (MS Office, ERP Systems).
  • Problem-solving skills to identify root causes of issues using systematic and logical steps.
