About the position

The Quality Control Underwriter and Analyst at Amerant is responsible for coordinating, executing, and managing compliance functions, particularly the Quality Control program for Amerant Mortgage. This role involves directing quality control resources, managing activities across various origination verticals, and ensuring adherence to the company's Quality Control Plan. The position also includes managing audits, developing quality control processes, and providing recommendations for continuous improvement based on quality control results.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage Compliance functions including the Quality Control program for Amerant Mortgage.
  • Direct quality control resources to support the policies and objectives set by the Executive Team.
  • Manage quality control activities across Retail, Wholesale, and Amerant Mortgage Partnerships.
  • Oversee state and agency examinations and support audits as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to the Company Quality Control Plan, including vendor management and training.
  • Recommend and implement operational and credit risk controls based on Quality Control results.
  • Work with Compliance and Operations management to create and manage credit risk policies.
  • Develop and maintain Quality Control processes and assist with audits.
  • Evaluate overall Quality Control results and prepare management responses and remediation plans.
  • Oversee monthly Quality Control meetings with the Quality Control Committee.
  • Manage vendor and outsourced relationships to maintain SLAs and quality oversight.
  • Evaluate loan manufacturing functions and develop training programs for staff performance improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations related to BSA, USA Patriot Act, OFAC, and AML issues.
  • Assist with fraud investigations and audits for Compliance management reporting.
  • Identify and recommend actions to mitigate risks to earnings or capital.
  • Support Compliance management for capacity planning based on corporate goals.
  • Perform additional Compliance duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree, FHA Direct Endorsement authority (Preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years of compliance experience with at least 3 years of quality control experience
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and process-driven
  • Proficient with MS Applications
  • Mortgage or related banking industry experience
  • Strong project-management skills
  • Proven ability to draft procedures and evaluate internal controls
  • Strong work ethic and hands-on approach
  • Ability to address challenging issues objectively
  • Ability to build technical processes and work with Products for compliance-related requirements
  • Knowledge of consumer protection laws and regulations such as TILA, ECOA, FCRA, and others
  • Experience conducting compliance monitoring and testing
  • Proven ability to manage projects from start to finish
  • Ability to handle multiple projects while staying organized
  • Strong communication skills for articulating plans and processes
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Professional certifications such as CRCM are a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
