About the position

The Quality Engineer III position at Amarx Search, Inc. is a full-time role based in South Deerfield, MA, with a focus on supporting manufacturing processes for a major global raw materials producer. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining quality systems that ensure the production of Thermoplastic Polyurethane and Polycarbonate films and sheets meet both internal quality standards and customer requirements. This role is critical in supporting local and global quality objectives, ensuring the effectiveness of the ISO 9001 Quality Management System at the South Deerfield site, and improving quality outcomes through structured problem-solving tools to investigate and address quality issues and opportunities. In this position, the Quality Engineer will actively participate in the site's incident workplace culture, routinely mitigate safety-related issues, and engage in site safety teams. The role requires management of change activities for standard processes and project activities, as well as support for the SDF Quality Management System for ISO 9001:2015 certification and alignment with Global Integrated Management Systems (IMS). The engineer will lead or serve on self-assessment teams to meet annual compliance requirements and will be responsible for maintaining and updating existing quality documentation while developing new documentation as needed. The Quality Engineer will also support and lead various QMS processes, including Calibration, Document Change Requests (DCR), Non-Conformance Material Reports (NCMR), Material Review Board (MRB), and Supplier Management for raw materials. They will provide day-to-day support to internal customers, including Production, Engineering, and other departments, to ensure quality outcomes at the site. Additionally, the engineer will evaluate quality outcomes on standard issues, suggest improvements, and may provide work direction to Quality Technicians and Production employees in making quality-related decisions. The role also involves supporting quality training and process and product development trials, providing engineering support to complex projects across product lines, and leading smaller continuous improvement teams at the site.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and demonstrate the site's incident workplace culture.
  • Routinely mitigate safety related issues and actively participate on site safety teams.
  • Capable of Management of Change activities for standard process and project activities.
  • Support SDF Quality Management System for ISO 9001:2015 certification and alignment with Global IMS.
  • Lead/serve on Self-Assessment team to meet annual Compliance requirements.
  • Maintain/update existing Quality documentation and develop new, as needed.
  • Support/lead QMS processes (Calibration, DCR, NCMR, MRB, Supplier Management, etc.) and suggest improvements.
  • Support requests for Customer specifications, PPAP, Quality Survey and other Customer documentation.
  • Provide day to day support to the Internal Customer (Production, Engineering, GQM, GTPM, CO/OM, MM, Innovation) to ensure Quality outcomes at site.
  • Evaluate Quality outcomes on standard issues and suggest improvements.
  • May provide work direction to Quality Technicians, Production employees or Process Technicians in making quality related decisions.
  • Maintain and update Quality documentation (raw material specifications, Production Record Reports, Quality SOP/Work Instructions, etc.) and materials for Quality training activities.
  • Support Quality training and process and product development trials.
  • Provide engineering support to complex projects across product lines.
  • May participate in global communities and projects.
  • Possess a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Lead smaller continuous improvement teams/efforts at the site.
  • Utilize CI tools in both project and daily work to meet customer expectations.
  • Generate Quality KPI data as assigned, perform data analysis and suggest actions to improve Quality outcomes.
  • Apply statistical analysis to determine process and product capability.
  • Understand the business and economic drivers for the site.
  • Develop in role as the Voice of the External Customer / Voice of Business, as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferred ChemE, Polymer, Materials).
  • 2+ years experience in a manufacturing or engineering role.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to function as a peer in a team environment and potentially lead cross-functional teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • Thermoplastic film extrusion and web handling experience.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, Quality and 5S tools, Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field.
  • ASQ certification - LSS Green/Black Belt, Quality Engineer, Quality Auditor.
  • Familiarity with Minitab and SAP.
