About the position

The Quality Engineering Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the quality and performance of electric vehicle (EV) batteries. This position involves a variety of tasks that are critical to maintaining high standards in battery production. The technician will be responsible for sampling and inspecting incoming parts from suppliers, as well as conducting thorough inspections of EV batteries at various stages of the production process. This includes the use of precision measurement equipment to assess the quality of the batteries and identify any defects or non-conformances. The technician must adopt an investigative mindset, focusing on analyzing data, diagnosing issues, and implementing effective corrective actions to enhance battery quality. In this role, the technician will utilize precision measurement instruments to perform component testing and analyze data to determine the root causes of quality issues. They will also be responsible for performing repairs, executing weld inspections, and conducting software updates as necessary. Collaboration with engineers, production teams, and other stakeholders is essential to solve problems and improve overall battery quality. The technician will document all inspections, findings, and corrective actions taken, ensuring that relevant data is available for future reference and analysis. Staying current with the latest quality standards and regulations for EV batteries is crucial, as is providing support for reliability testing and the launch of new products. The technician will also be expected to maintain and calibrate precision measurement equipment according to manufacturer specifications and train other team members on the proper use of this equipment. The position requires a commitment to safety, quality, and efficiency, with the expectation of working overtime as needed to meet production demands.

Responsibilities

  • Sample and inspect incoming materials; perform component testing.
  • Conduct inspections of EV batteries at various stages of the production process using precision measurement electrical equipment/charge and discharge equipment.
  • Identify and diagnose defects and non-conformances in EV batteries using data analysis and various troubleshooting techniques.
  • Perform repairs and software updates; and execute weld inspections according to established procedures.
  • Analyze data and perform root cause analysis, utilizing insights from precision measurement equipment to determine the source of quality issues.
  • Develop and implement corrective actions to address quality issues, leveraging precision measurement equipment to ensure effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with engineers, production teams, and other stakeholders to solve problems and improve battery quality, including sharing findings from precision measurement data.
  • Document all inspections, findings, corrective actions taken, and relevant data from precision measurement equipment for future reference and analysis.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest quality standards and regulations for EV batteries, including the proper use and interpretation of data from precision measurement equipment.
  • Provide support for reliability testing and launching new products.
  • Continuously seek ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of battery quality control processes, incorporating learnings from precision measurement data analysis.
  • Maintain and calibrate precision measurement electrical equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
  • Train and mentor other team members on properly using and interpreting data from precision measurement equipment.
  • Comply with and promote company practices in the areas of safety, human relations, quality, cost, housekeeping, and delivery targets for the area.

Requirements

  • Completion of an associate degree or certificate from an educational institution in a related field, such as Electrical, Electronic, Automotive Technology, or Precision Measurement Engineering.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a quality control environment, preferably in the automotive or battery manufacturing industry.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with EV batteries.
  • Working knowledge of 8D, 5 Why, and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical principles.
