About the position

The Receiving Inspector at Virgin Galactic plays a crucial role in supporting the Quality team by ensuring that all materials received meet the required standards and specifications. This position emphasizes safety and accountability in the inspection process, contributing to the overall success of human spaceflight initiatives. The inspector will be responsible for conducting thorough inspections, maintaining compliance with Quality Management Systems (QMS), and collaborating with various teams to uphold the company's commitment to quality and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Process product inspections upon receipt from materials.
  • Verify all materials have proper traceability and are obtained from vendors on the ASL (Approved Suppliers List).
  • Perform re-inspections on product returns from Manufacturing (MFG).
  • Conduct historical research on inspections for other groups as needed.
  • Process, monitor, and move Non-Conformance Reports (NCR's) and maintain custody/control of Material Review Board (MRB).
  • Generate Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) as required within TipQA and/or Apriso during receiving inspections for erroneous entries.
  • Inspect purchased electrical and mechanical parts, and raw materials for conformity to standards, specifications, and processing requirements.
  • Inspect for defects and damage, proper identification, and dimensions using measuring devices.
  • Input data and inspection results.
  • Follow and document complex processes, input data and inspection results.
  • Communicate effectively, in both written and verbal formats, with engineering, management, and production personnel to convey product acceptance criteria and inspection results.
  • Comply with safety regulations and promote a safe working environment.
  • Conduct work in a manner that enhances health and safety, product safety, and promotes risk reduction.
  • Participate openly in safety-related event investigations and report workplace hazards.
  • Cooperate and contribute toward the overall success of the Safety program at the local level.
  • Adhere to set directions and guidelines from team leader to support collaboration across teams to complete projects.
  • Work on quality control assignments that are moderately difficult, requiring judgment in resolving issues or making recommendations.
  • Ensure quality and efficiency of installations, including troubleshooting and providing guidance in troubleshooting processes.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in a related field, including aerospace parts and components, and hands-on experience in a manufacturing, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), or airline environment.
  • Knowledge of AS9100 and other relevant aerospace industry standards and regulations.
  • In-depth understanding of inspection techniques and quality issues associated with logistics and warehouse operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and/or models on paper or digital.
  • Experience with nonconforming material control processes.
  • Specific vision abilities to detect flaws or defects in materials used.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer applications to follow manufacturing work instructions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proven hands-on inspection experience in the aerospace industry using a variety of precision measurement tools.
  • Knowledge of applying current quality control practices and willingness to learn cutting-edge spacecraft quality techniques; Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) training preferred.
  • Basic math and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to collaborate on quality inspection projects with fellow technicians or interdepartmental functions.
  • Ability to communicate in a timely, respectful manner, open to other ideas.
  • Strong safety forward thinking and good housekeeping practices.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
