About the position

The Quality Measurement Data Manager at Stony Brook Medicine is responsible for overseeing chart abstraction and data capture related to various external quality reporting requirements. This role focuses on improving patient outcomes by analyzing data from patient records and identifying opportunities for quality improvement. The manager will work closely with clinical staff and IT to ensure accurate data collection and reporting for quality registries, including CMS/TJC measure sets and state-level reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze new and revised specifications for assigned quality registries.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of reporting requirements and educate relevant staff.
  • Perform gap analysis to identify missing registry data elements.
  • Manage collaborative projects with IT and clinical staff to capture necessary data.
  • Conduct hybrid medical record reviews and clinical data abstraction activities.
  • Ensure the accuracy of all data captured for measure sets and registries.
  • Provide guidance to clinical staff regarding variances with guidelines.
  • Generate ad-hoc reports and perform additional responsibilities as needed.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to accomplish organizational quality goals.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse, physician assistant, or other clinical care provider with three or more years of nursing or clinical experience, or Licensed Practical Nurse with five or more years of experience.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse healthcare workers.
  • Proficiency in navigating electronic medical records.
  • Basic computer skills including spreadsheet, word processing, and presentations.
  • Demonstrated adaptability in a changing environment.
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or other advanced clinical education.
  • Five or more years of surgical clinical experience.
  • Experience in clinical chart review and abstraction.
  • Prior experience with healthcare quality reporting and regulatory requirements.
  • Skill in presenting information to various audiences.
  • Experience in designing electronic health record components.
  • Intermediate experience with Excel.
