About the position

The Quality & Operational Improvement Engineer at the UI Heart and Vascular Center is responsible for developing and coordinating compliance with CMS Conditions of Participation for Transplant Programs and OPTN Bylaws. This role involves facilitating performance improvement activities, training staff on methodologies, and providing data analysis to support decision-making in quality and safety initiatives within the transplant programs.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates improvement activities for Thoracic Transplant Programs in the Department of Quality and Safety.
  • Collaborates in developing long-term strategies for evaluating processes and outcomes across the continuum of care.
  • Promotes performance improvement principles throughout the organization.
  • Works with HCIS to facilitate data collection and design databases for decision making.
  • Ensures accurate data acquisition and analysis to support clinical and administrative decisions.
  • Reviews and develops reports, providing end-user assistance and identifying solutions.
  • Acts as a departmental representative in meetings regarding performance improvement and resource utilization.
  • Facilitates departmental QAPI meetings and process improvement efforts, training staff on methodologies.
  • Promotes collaboration and problem resolution within the hospital organization.
  • Facilitates significant clinical event analysis and implements systems for clinical practice change.
  • Prepares and presents educational programs on performance improvement and quality initiatives.
  • Supports integration and standardization of processes across the organization.
  • Seeks opportunities for professional development and career growth.
  • Assumes special assignments from leadership and participates in hiring staff.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a basic science or healthcare-related field or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Ability to format advanced tables and retrieve data via queries.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a multi-disciplinary team and collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum 3 years of quality-related experience in managing outcomes and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Certification in performance improvement techniques (e.g., Six Sigma Green or Black Belt).
  • Professional certification related to healthcare quality (e.g., CPHQ, ASQ).
  • Clinical nursing experience.
  • Knowledge of University and Regent policies, procedures, and regulations.
