About the position

The Quality Tax Expert (QTE) is a temporary position focused on advocating for low-income and ESL tax clients. The role involves providing tax consultations, representing clients in IRS functions, and ensuring compliance with filing and collections. The QTE will collaborate with pro bono panelists to achieve quality case resolutions and maintain thorough documentation of cases.

Responsibilities

• Advocate for the rights of low-income and ESL tax clients.
• Provide tax consultations and represent clients before the IRS.
• Determine and execute case strategy with supervisor assistance.
• Maintain case documentation and ensure compliance with filing and collections.
• Work directly with pro bono panelists to ensure quality case resolution.
• Conduct client interviews to ascertain representation needs and eligibility requirements.
• Recruit pro bono panelists and manage client referrals.
• Conduct legal research regarding Income Tax Law.
• Maintain Circular 230 requirements to practice before the IRS.
• Assist with the completion of program reports.

Requirements

• Arizona Licensed Attorney, Enrolled Agent, or Certified Public Accountant authorized to practice before the IRS.
• Proven strong communication skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to obtain IRS PIN Number and CAF number within 30 days of hire.
• Valid driver license and proof of insurance.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card and FBI National Criminal Records History Report.

Nice-to-haves

• 1 or more years of experience working or volunteering in a low-income tax clinic (LITC) environment.
• 2 or more years of experience as a practicing Attorney, Enrolled Agent, or CPA.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish, verbal and written.
