About the position

Wells Fargo is seeking a head of the Model Methodology and Research group to lead the development of advanced models, algorithms, and tools that enhance modeling practices across the company. This role involves setting the vision and strategy for statistical modeling, machine learning, and optimization, while ensuring alignment with enterprise-wide risk management objectives. The individual will oversee a team of quantitative analysts and collaborate with various stakeholders to drive innovation and improve modeling standards.

Responsibilities

  • Set the vision and strategy to conduct applied research for methodology and algorithm development.
  • Identify state-of-the-art techniques in modeling and optimization for risk management applications.
  • Design, implement, and automate model replication, benchmarking, and testing processes.
  • Develop a model library and platform to support the model validation process.
  • Present and publish best practices and research within the quantitative modeling community.
  • Collaborate with internal and external quantitative communities to stay updated on developments in quantitative risk.
  • Evaluate and implement strategies for developing modeling resources to enhance fundamentals and initiatives.
  • Manage teams of quantitative analysts and foster a culture of talent development.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of Quantitative Analytical experience or equivalent.
  • 4+ years of management experience.
  • Master's degree or higher in a quantitative discipline such as mathematics, statistics, engineering, physics, accounting, finance, economics, or computer science.

Nice-to-haves

  • In-depth knowledge of ML methodologies such as ensemble algorithms and neural networks.
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python and Java.
  • Experience with ML/AI computing platforms like TensorFlow and Keras.
  • Experience with GPU programming and distributed programming.
  • Strong conceptual and quantitative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively on cross-organizational projects.
