About the position

The Quantitative Financial Analyst III is a pivotal role within the Treasury team at Flagstar, focusing on enhancing the understanding of customer dynamics, balance sheet intricacies, and risk exposures. This position requires a blend of advanced quantitative and technical skills to generate insightful reporting and analysis that supports effective risk management and strategic decision-making. The Analyst will engage in various assignments, including funds transfer pricing, interest rate risk measurement and management, liquidity risk assessment, asset valuation, profitability analysis, and management of fixed income investment portfolios. In this role, the Analyst will be responsible for the development and maintenance of sophisticated financial models that are essential for funds transfer pricing, risk measurement, income simulations, and balance sheet management. The Analyst will analyze model outputs, synthesize information, and communicate findings and recommendations clearly and concisely to senior management, executives, and the Board. Additionally, the Analyst will conduct rigorous testing of established models, which includes back-testing, benchmarking, sensitivity testing, and scenario analysis. A key aspect of the role will also involve developing automated solutions to streamline complex and repetitive processes, thereby enhancing efficiency within the team. This position is designed for individuals who possess a strong analytical mindset, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage projects effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. The Analyst will play a crucial role in driving the Treasury's strategic initiatives and ensuring sound financial practices are upheld throughout the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Development and maintenance of financial models used in funds transfer pricing, risk measurement, income simulations, balance sheet management, or asset valuations.
  • Analysis of model output, synthesis of information, and communication of conclusions and recommendations in a clear and concise manner to senior managers, executives, and the Board.
  • Testing of established models, including back-testing, benchmarking, sensitivity testing, and scenario analysis.
  • Develop automated solutions to simplify challenging and repetitive processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree with 6+ years of experience or Master's Degree with 2+ years of experience.
  • Excellent analytical skills; strong written and oral communication skills, a clear, concise expository style, and advanced interpersonal relations skills.
  • Strong project management skills; demonstrated ability to work cooperatively, prioritize and multi-task within a team-oriented and fast-paced environment.
  • Mastery of finance concepts; solid understanding of statistics and quantitative methods preferred.
  • Understanding of fixed income securities and analytics preferred; proven experience with object-oriented and/or relational database programming preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • ALM software experience (QRM, Empyrean, Moody's, etc.).
  • Funds transfer pricing (FTP) experience in model development, implementation, and validation.
