About the position

The Quantum Taskforce at Moody's is seeking an intern to explore the potential of quantum computing in finance. This role involves developing innovative solutions to computational challenges using quantum and quantum-inspired methods, collaborating with experts, and contributing to research and development efforts. The internship offers a hands-on learning experience, mentorship, and opportunities for professional growth within a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop use cases for which classical algorithms struggle and identify computational bottlenecks with quantum/inspired methods.
  • Engage hands-on, review current literature, participate in research, and collaborate with domain experts to craft innovative solutions.
  • Identify computational bottlenecks and potential business advantages in high-impact use cases for Moody's clients in collaboration with subject matter experts.
  • Develop new or apply existing quantum/quantum-inspired algorithms to specific applications and benchmark them against current classical solvers.
  • Review current quantum/quantum-inspired algorithms literature to choose the most promising techniques to address computational bottlenecks.
  • Implement new solvers with relevant libraries/SDKs and integrate them into the benchmarking platform, QFStudio.
  • Contribute to Moody's IP by developing innovative solutions.
  • Write white papers, thought leadership pieces, and reports with project results.
  • Work on resource estimation for fault-tolerant quantum computing algorithms.
  • Demonstrate autonomy and the ability to learn new skills and domains.
  • Collaborate with the external academic community and business community.
  • Partner with other ML groups inside the company to find hybrid solutions and benchmarks.

Requirements

  • Experience working with several programming languages, particularly Python.
  • Experience with cloud computing, software development, and data pipelines.
  • Knowledge of quantum computing algorithms, especially gate-based quantum computing and hybrid techniques.
  • Experience working with quantum computing SDKs (qiskit, cirq, pennylane, or others).
  • Familiarity with Tensor Network libraries and techniques (cuTensorNet, TeNPy or others) is desirable.
  • Experience in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence algorithms and tools is desirable.
  • Experience in Quantitative finance is desirable.
  • Experience in technical writing in a scientific or technical field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with Tensor Network libraries and techniques (cuTensorNet, TeNPy or others).
  • Experience in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence algorithms and tools.
  • Experience in Quantitative finance.
