About the position

The Quantum Hardware Engineer Summer Intern position at IBM is designed for undergraduate or graduate students pursuing a degree in engineering, quantum computing, physics, or a related field. This internship aims to advance the development of quantum computing systems, focusing on hardware, firmware, and various engineering disciplines. Interns will learn new techniques, participate in corporate events, and manage their time effectively while contributing to innovative projects in quantum technology.

Responsibilities

  • Advance the development of quantum computing systems including hardware, firmware, superconducting qubits, and cryoelectronic circuit design.
  • Learn new quantum engineering techniques and incorporate them into work processes.
  • Participate in corporate events and executive speaker series.
  • Showcase effective time management.

Requirements

  • Experience in a graduate or undergraduate program in engineering, quantum computing, physics, or a related field.
  • Engineering experience in hardware development, firmware development, superconducting qubits, cryoelectronic circuit design, quantum microwave engineering, or materials science.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with microelectronics materials and process integration.
  • Experience with fabrication processes for quantum computing applications.
  • Experience in analog, mixed-signal, and custom digital integrated circuit design.
  • Familiarity with development tools such as Cadence, Mentor, ADS, HFSS, and other industry-standard tools.
