About the position
The Quarry Heavy Equipment Operator position at APAC Mississippi involves operating various heavy equipment in an open pit mine environment. The role requires a skilled operator to ensure safe and efficient operations while adhering to company policies and safety regulations. The operator will work closely with a team, assist in training less-experienced employees, and perform maintenance and inspections on equipment.
Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment of various sizes and weights used in pit and mining operations.
- Report any problems to the manager.
- Maintain a safe work environment for themselves and co-workers.
- Communicate effectively with co-workers using hand signals or other movements when backing up equipment.
- Follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures.
- Follow directions from the Foreman regarding daily tasks and expectations.
- Perform minor servicing and maintenance of equipment and refer major problems to the Foreman.
- Conduct daily pre-and-post inspections with appropriate documentation.
- Assist in training less-experienced employees on equipment operations and maintenance.
- Perform general labor duties when necessary.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- At least three years of experience operating heavy equipment such as Haul Truck, Motor Grader, Bulldozer, Excavator, and Front End Loader.
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment 'Fit for Work' physical.
- Valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration document.
- Professional and courteous attitude towards co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
- Willingness to travel and work away from home when required.
- Ability to work nights and weekends when necessary.
- Ability to work overtime when required.
- Willingness to work outdoors in extreme temperatures.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors.
Nice-to-haves
- Previous related experience in the construction field and/or training.
- Two to five years' experience in loader operations preferred.
