About the position

The Interpreter Coordinator for Special Projects at the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) is responsible for coordinating interpreting services for various trainings, workshops, and meetings related to the Regional Early Acquisition of Language (REAL) Project South and other special projects. This role supports the mission of ensuring early language access for Deaf and Hard of Hearing infants and toddlers, providing training and resources to families and professionals. The coordinator will work closely with other interpreter coordinators and manage contracts and invoicing for interpreter services.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate interpreters for trainings, workshops, and staff meetings, including onsite, virtual, and offsite events.
  • Facilitate contract signatures and submission of invoices to the REAL administrative assistant.
  • Collaborate with other interpreter coordinators in Special Projects programs.
  • Provide interpreting services for Deaf, Deaf/Blind, and Hard of Hearing individuals in various settings.
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor an interpreting services database.
  • Maintain Alabama Interpreter License and ensure compliance with federal and state laws related to interpreting.
  • Work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Possess Alabama Interpreter License upon employment.
  • Minimum of 3 years successful work experience in interpreting for Deaf and Deaf/Blind individuals.
  • Minimum entry sign language proficiency level of ADVANCED according to AIDB evaluation system; ADVANCED PLUS must be obtained within the first 36 months of employment.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills regarding computers/equipment, including remote interpreting.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively with AIDB staff, students, and the community.
