About the position

The position involves advanced mechanical engineering within the medical device automated manufacturing equipment field. The incumbent will develop and apply engineering theories and research techniques to solve complex technical problems, manage projects, and coordinate technical support staff. This role is crucial in innovating and improving medical devices that enhance patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, design, build, commission, debug, and troubleshoot mechanical aspects of medical device manufacturing equipment.
  • Develop and apply advanced theories and research techniques to solve complex technical problems.
  • Plan, conduct, and technically direct projects or major phases of significant projects, coordinating technical support staff.
  • Conduct studies to approach difficult technical problems requiring novel approaches and sophisticated research techniques.
  • Contribute inventions, new designs, or techniques significant to solving specific problems.
  • Keep abreast of new scientific methods and developments to recommend program changes or new design programs.
  • Plan, organize, and supervise the work of engineers or technicians on various projects.
  • Provide input and direction to management on various issues.
  • Work on special projects, write Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), and create prototypes.
  • Review existing patents for infringement and generate new intellectual property during development projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field with 15 years of experience, Master's Degree with 9 years, or Ph.D. with 7 years of experience.
  • Extensive experience with medical device manufacturing methods such as UV bonding and catheter processing.
  • Strong 3D CAD drafting skills, preferably with Solidworks.
  • Experience as the primary designer for product lines resulting in significant revenue and multiple patents.
  • Ability to apply analytical skills and complex scientific principles to solve engineering problems.
  • Demonstrated computer skills in spreadsheets, word processing, and database software.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, effective as a team member.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. and international standards applicable to the department.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with design software such as OrCAD, Multism, ProENGINEER.
