About the position

The Senior R&D Electrical Engineer at Johnson Outdoors Inc. is responsible for creating innovative product designs and improvements based on company strategy and advanced design skills. This role involves managing product timelines, troubleshooting design issues, and collaborating with internal teams to ensure quality product development. The engineer will also conduct technical evaluations, prototype testing, and produce necessary documentation throughout the product development process.

Responsibilities

• Creates innovative new product designs in response to new product concepts.
• Constructs and maintains new product timelines, including required external resources.
• Designs and develops improvements to existing products.
• Recommends manufacturing and design fabrication/construction best practices.
• Troubleshoots design obstructions and provides cost-effective solutions.
• Performs prototype design experimentation and evaluates prototype designs for performance and reliability.
• Writes product specifications and provides documentation for testing verification methods.
• Conducts technical feasibility evaluations and competitive testing to verify designs.
• Produces project documentation including prints, engineering files, and Engineering Change Orders (ECO's).
• Assists operations and outside suppliers during new product development stages.
• Manages moderately complex to complex projects from concept to completion.

Requirements

• Thorough knowledge of company strategy and needs.
• Advanced design skills in electrical engineering.
• Experience in prototype design and fabrication.
• Ability to conduct technical feasibility evaluations and competitive testing.
• Strong project management skills, including timeline and budget management.
