About the position

The Senior R&D Electrical Engineer at Johnson Outdoors is responsible for creating innovative product designs and improvements based on company strategy and advanced design skills. This role involves managing product timelines, troubleshooting design issues, and collaborating with internal teams to ensure quality product development. The engineer will also conduct technical evaluations, prototype testing, and produce necessary documentation throughout the product development process.

Responsibilities

  • Create innovative new product designs in response to new product concepts.
  • Construct and maintain new product timelines, including required external resources.
  • Design and develop improvements to existing products.
  • Recommend manufacturing and design fabrication/construction best practices.
  • Troubleshoot design obstructions and provide cost-effective solutions.
  • Perform prototype design experimentation and fabrication.
  • Evaluate prototype designs for performance and reliability.
  • Write product specifications and provide documentation for testing verification methods.
  • Ensure products meet specifications and publish testing results.
  • Conduct technical feasibility evaluations and competitive testing to verify designs.
  • Formulate development, unit, and tooling cost estimates.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting of electrical/electronic design issues during development.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to resolve issues and ensure quality product development.
  • Produce project documentation including prints, engineering files, and Engineering Change Orders (ECO's).
  • Assist operations and suppliers through new product development stages.
  • Manage a variety of moderately complex to complex projects from concept to completion.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of company strategy and needs.
  • Advanced design skills in electrical engineering.
  • Experience in product design and development.
  • Ability to manage project timelines and budgets.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical/electronic design issues.
  • Experience with prototype design and testing.
