As an R&D Engineer/Scientist II within Honeywell UOP's Research and Development organization, you will work with occasional supervision to build, maintain, and install analytical instrumentation in pilot plant areas. You will collaborate with senior personnel to troubleshoot problems with analytical equipment and related systems, developing a general knowledge of UOP processes and R&D pilot plants. Your experience will be crucial in discussing and recommending what equipment and analyses should be implemented on projects. You will also understand the relationship between adverse sampling techniques (phase, temperature, pressure, etc.) and the performance of online equipment. In this role, you will troubleshoot in collaboration with pilot plant technicians and researchers, verifying analyses and plant operations as problems arise. You will be accountable for working in compliance with all HS&E safety requirements and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain, and install analytical instrumentation in pilot plant areas with occasional supervision.
  • Collaborate with senior personnel to troubleshoot problems with analytical equipment and related systems.
  • Develop a general knowledge of UOP processes and R&D pilot plants.
  • Discuss and recommend what equipment and analyses should be implemented on projects based on experience.
  • Understand the relationship between adverse sampling techniques and the performance of online equipment.
  • Troubleshoot in collaboration with pilot plant technicians and researchers to verify analyses and plant operations as problems arise.
  • Work in compliance with all HS&E safety requirements and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science degree with an extensive Chemistry/Chemical Engineering background or related Physical Science.
  • 2-10 years of work experience related to Gas Chromatography/Analytical Instrumentation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of gas chromatography principles and experience with the use, repair, and calibration of online gas chromatographs.
  • Research experience with instrumental analytical chemistry procedures, including quantitative analysis.
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and the ability to quickly learn to use a variety of software.
  • Ability to design experiments and conduct applied research.
  • Experience with spectroscopic instrumentation.
  • Programming experience (Excel macro/script writing, MATLAB, Python, LabView, etc.).
  • Knowledge of one or more UOP processes.
  • Ability to apply statistical analysis to data sets.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Rapid problem solver, troubleshooter, and integrative thinker.
