About the position

The R&D Engineering Technician role at Volt involves working on the prototyping and assembly of devices, utilizing various tools and machines, including 3D printers. The technician will be responsible for evaluating new component designs, developing assembly processes, and creating new test methods. This position requires a high level of independence, ownership, and proactive communication, with a focus on driving tasks to completion and contributing to team goals.

Responsibilities

• Prototyping assembly of prototype devices using microscope, tweezers, and other tools.
• Operate 3D printer and other proprietary fabrication and assembly machines.
• Design and build simple tools and fixtures for prototype completion.
• Evaluate new component designs with incoming inspection and other verification methods.
• Evaluate prototypes using engineering test methods.
• Source, recommend, procure, and quality new verification/test equipment.
• Evaluate new assembly processes, including capability studies.
• Execute qualification, verification, and validation protocols.
• Develop new test/inspection methods from scratch.
• Develop prototype-level assembly processes into manufacturing-level processes.
• Ensure processes are clear and exact.
• Original design or development of components, tools, and processes from specifications or concepts.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of work experience.
• Two-year degree is a plus.
• Prior technical experience is a plus.
• Prior manufacturing/production experience is a plus.
