About the position

As an R&D Integration Engineer at KBR, you will be at the forefront of military autonomous solution development and prototyping, specifically supporting the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL). This role involves tackling system and software integration challenges related to airborne autonomy prototyping, with a focus on meeting national defense objectives within a challenging timeline. You will collaborate closely with a diverse team, fostering innovation and excellence in every aspect of your work. Your contributions will be vital in shaping the future of military autonomous systems, and you will play a key role in the development and integration of software systems across various computing hardware and military and commercial air platforms. In this position, you will execute technical tasks aimed at achieving challenging objectives, including software integration, system-level testing, and problem resolution. You will support the establishment and maintenance of multiple development and test environments, ensuring synchronized software loads and issue tracking. Your responsibilities will also include coordinating and integrating interoperable software containers, creating solutions to address infrastructure and security requirements, and designing and implementing CI/CD solutions. You will be expected to prepare formal documentation, facilitate planning meetings, and deliver progress reports, all while operating in a dynamic, high-paced team environment. The successful candidate will possess a strong background in software development and systems integration, with experience in Agile development environments and a containerized DevSecOps approach. This role is critical in supporting the AFRL's research and development efforts to prototype and transition an autonomous ISR capability that can detect, identify, track, and report on high-value targets.

Responsibilities

  • Execute technical tasks to achieve challenging technical objectives including software integration, software system level test, software service level testing, problem resolution, modeling & simulation implementation, and support to system requirement verification & validation.
  • Support the establishment, maintenance, use and continued improvement of three to four separate development and test environments (Software in the Loop, and Hardware in the Loop) at different classifications, while maintaining synchronized software loads, code repositories, and issue tracking across each environment.
  • Coordinate, and integrate many interoperable software containers to create distinct and related software variants.
  • Create, develop, and implement solutions to address infrastructure and security requirements.
  • Identify the needs for build automation, designing, and implementing CICD solutions.
  • Create, develop, and implement automation and system integration for various build platforms.
  • Support publishing and dissemination of CICD best practices, patterns, and solutions.
  • Help troubleshoot, identify, and fix problems in the DevSecOps domain.
  • Prepare formal and informal documentation in accordance with organizational processes and procedures, schedule and facilitate incremental planning and coordination meetings and prepare and deliver written and oral progress reports.
  • Develop detailed documentation, briefs, technical drawings, engineering diagrams, and plans.
  • Operate on a dynamic, high-paced team to deliver challenging technical solutions to near-term Air Force operational problems.

Requirements

  • Bachelors' degree from an accredited college in a technical discipline with 10 years of experience in software development, and/or systems integration.
  • Ability to gain a Secret and Top Secret/SCI clearance.
  • Proficient in repository management software systems, container-based software systems, and DevSecOps processes.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products.

Nice-to-haves

  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance.
  • Master's degree from an accredited college in a technical discipline.
  • 5 years of experience in software development, and/or systems integration.
  • Proficient in Kubernetes and/or Docker.
  • Familiarity with modeling and simulation systems.
  • Significant experience in military and/or commercial airborne systems, intelligence, UAV, and/or autonomous flight systems.
  • Experience with Gitlab, Kubernetes, Docker, Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling (AFSIM), Open Mission Systems/Unified Command and Control Interface (OMS/UCI).
  • Familiarity with software system test tools, processes, and best practices.
  • Candidate must be a high performer, effective collaborator, and organized.
