About the position

The R&D Mechatronics Engineer or Robotics/Automation Engineer will play a crucial role in optimizing and improving manufacturing processes for a client utilizing a proprietary NASA-approved dry adhesive. This position involves hands-on work in building products and developing custom tools and fixtures, with a focus on transitioning concepts from ideation to realization. The engineer will collaborate closely with the Head of Engineering to implement continuous process improvements and prepare for automation in manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct hands-on work of building products and carrying concepts from ideation to realization.
  • Develop custom tools and fixtures for manufacturing processes.
  • Utilize CAD software, specifically Fusion 360, for design and manufacturing tasks.
  • Define, develop, and implement continuous process improvements to existing manufacturing operations.
  • Prepare the client for automating their manufacturing line by designing and building machines and automated processes.
  • Develop standardized methods and procedures to improve manufacturing line efficiency, including work instructions, SOPs, and R&D reports.
  • Provide recommendations on design and manufacturing procedures for new product launches.
  • Prototype and test new tooling, fixtures, methods, and production concepts.
  • Evaluate and characterize atypical materials.

Requirements

  • Mechatronics/Robotics/Automation background in R&D.
  • Ability to build and prototype machines for automating manufacturing operations.
  • Programming skills in C++, Python, or PLC programming.
  • Experience with process development and improvement, including writing SOPs and standardizing processes through documentation.
  • Good technical writing skills.
  • Proven record within a manufacturing environment.
  • Solid foundational knowledge of GMP.
  • Knowledge of current manufacturing industry techniques and practices.
  • Interest in early-stage development of novel technology into diverse product mixes.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM/FEA software.
  • Prototyping experience with tools such as CNC, laser cutter, and 3D printer.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
