About the position

The R&D Pre-Order Electrical Solutions Engineer position at Vertiv is designed for a technically driven individual who thrives in a hands-on environment and enjoys tackling new challenges. This role focuses on electrical design and controls engineering for power distribution equipment, specifically in the North American and European markets. The engineer will work closely with the electrical design team, contribute to the development of new practices, and ensure compliance with relevant standards while supporting the application engineering team in creating cost-effective designs that meet customer requirements.

Responsibilities

• Work with the Electrical design team and CAD in the preparation of detailed design drawings and documentation.
• Review tender information including specifications, single line diagrams, and quotations to ensure compliance with customer requirements.
• Create and review electrical design drawings compiled by design engineers and mentor junior team members.
• Contribute to the development of new practices and processes within the design team to improve performance.
• Ensure products are designed to comply with NEC and UL standards.
• Collaborate with the Application Engineering team to create cost-effective designs that meet customer requirements.
• Engineer solutions for design exceptions while maintaining compliance with the design intent.
• Create customer prototype designs to support the quotation process and secure orders.
• Develop software for control equipment and create test scripts for functionality validation.
• Represent Vertiv on NFPA (NEC) panels to influence electrical code in the USA.

Requirements

• Proven experience in a related position involving design engineering and managing multiple projects.
• Bachelor of Engineering College Degree (Electrical).
• Understanding of UL standards including UL 1558, UL 891, UL 489 & UL 1066.
• Aptitude for problem solving in electrical control design.
• Ability to adapt to a fast-moving business environment.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proactive and flexible approach to teamwork.
