About the position

The R&D Pre-Order Mechanical Solutions Engineer position at Vertiv is designed for a self-driven individual who thrives in a technically focused team environment. This role involves mechanical design functions for power distribution equipment, with a strong emphasis on compliance with UL and NEC standards. The engineer will work closely with both mechanical and electrical teams to create designs that meet customer specifications while also mentoring junior team members. This position offers the opportunity to engage in a variety of challenges and contribute to the development of new practices within the design team.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the mechanical design team and CAD to prepare detailed design drawings and documentation.
  • Review tender information including specifications and single line diagrams to ensure compliance with customer requirements.
  • Create and review mechanical design drawings and mentor junior team members.
  • Contribute to the development of new practices and processes to improve order engineering performance.
  • Ensure products are designed to comply with NEC and UL standards.
  • Collaborate with the Application Engineering team to create cost-effective designs that meet customer requirements.
  • Engineer solutions for design exceptions while maintaining compliance with the design intent.
  • Create customer prototype designs to support the quotation process.
  • Develop busway flange connections for Vertiv busway and competitive systems based on specifications.
  • Work with the electrical team to create mechanical designs that accommodate multiple electrical components.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a related position involving design engineering and project management.
  • Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Understanding of UL standards including UL 1558, UL 891, UL 489, and UL 1066.
  • Strong problem-solving skills applicable to electrical control design.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-moving business environment.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in work.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proactive and flexible approach to teamwork.
