About the position

LyondellBasell is seeking a highly skilled R&D Process Engineer to support our robust growth and expansion in the field of basic polymers and polymer recycling research and development. This position is integral to our catalyst development, analytical testing, physical testing, and polymer processing laboratories. As a subject matter expert in process and operations engineering, the engineer will play a crucial role in enhancing our operational capabilities and driving innovation within the organization. The R&D Process Engineer will provide essential process engineering and operations engineering support for our laboratories. This includes performing engineering design for small projects and coordinating the engineering design for larger projects. The engineer will also lead capital and expense projects, ensuring that all initiatives align with our strategic goals and operational standards. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to safety and quality in all engineering practices. In addition to technical expertise, the successful candidate will possess strong presentation and reporting skills, enabling effective communication of complex engineering concepts to diverse audiences. Proficiency in computer applications, particularly MS Excel, Outlook, and Word, is essential. Familiarity with National Instruments hardware/software (LabView) and Wonderware is considered a plus. The engineer must demonstrate a high level of mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills, with a willingness to engage directly with equipment to resolve issues as they arise. Furthermore, the ability to lead and influence others without direct reporting responsibility is crucial, as this role will require collaboration across various teams and departments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide process engineering and operations engineering support for laboratories.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical or chemical engineering or related field).
  • Minimum of 5 years of industrial experience, preferably in the Polyolefins industry.
  • Engineering skills in process control, polymer processing equipment, and process design with a strong safety attitude.
  • Strong presentation and reporting skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Experience with National Instruments hardware/software (LabView) and Wonderware is a plus.
  • Ability to communicate with organizational and cultural sensitivity.
  • High level of mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills, willing and able to directly work on equipment.
  • High level of problem-solving ability.
  • Routine project management skills (time management, prioritization, and communication).
  • Ability to lead and influence others without direct reporting responsibility.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the Polyolefins industry.
  • Familiarity with National Instruments hardware/software (LabView) and Wonderware.
