About the position

The position at Afton Chemical Corporation involves conducting complex research, development, and performance testing activities to meet the objectives of the respective Strategic Business Unit (SBU). The role requires high-level communication and presentation skills, as the individual will manage multiple projects simultaneously and may act as a technical project lead, directing the work of other team members.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and manage formulation, synthesis, and testing activities to meet project objectives.
  • Lead the Afton Product Development Process effectively.
  • Design approaches, test plans, and milestones for project completion.
  • Evaluate and interpret data, performance, and deliverables, providing recommendations to R&D and project leaders.
  • Identify and eliminate hurdles to successful project completion.
  • Conduct special projects as assigned and participate in technical reviews, presenting findings as appropriate.
  • Engage with assigned teams and cross-functional stakeholders, such as business, process, and marketing.
  • Complete complex analytical testing procedures and provide detailed test reports to customers in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate all test/project data for accuracy and completeness, ensuring reasonable conclusions.
  • Consult with customers to review and explain results, offering insights and analytical perspectives.
  • Lead or direct special research projects independently and supervise technical team members assigned to projects.
  • Promote safe laboratory practices and ensure compliance with safety regulations and procedures.
  • Maintain documentation related to ISO or Quality System activities and participate in Quality System functions.
  • Represent Afton in technical conferences and maintain technical expertise through continuous learning.
  • Participate in IP activities, including competitor reviews and patent filings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Chemistry or Mechanical/Chemical Engineering.
  • More than 8 years of relevant experience in a research and development environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable chemistry and/or engineering principles.

Nice-to-haves

  • PhD degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
  • Relevant work experience with respective product category.
