About the position

The R & D Scientist at LuxWall, Inc. is responsible for the research, development, and commercialization of innovative glass products, particularly focusing on the Enthermal Glass technology. This role involves running clinical studies, overseeing technical and regulatory aspects of projects, and leading research teams to execute complex projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in statistical analyses and experience in formulating comprehensive research strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Support the research, development, and manufacturing effort of LuxWall through the mechanistic understanding of the flow behavior of organic-inorganic systems.
  • Lead research projects aimed at developing new organic-inorganic material formulations.
  • Characterize and optimize the rheological properties of organic-inorganic systems, including formulation development, advanced testing, data analysis, and data interpretation to support product development and manufacturing processes.
  • Develop and optimize organic-inorganic formulations to meet specific rheological profiles, targeting desired flow and deformation characteristics.
  • Assess the impact of components on interim and final state properties.
  • Apply rheological characterization techniques to ensure material consistency, stability, and performance, and work closely with cross-functional teams to meet product specifications and improve processing methods.
  • Develop material/component, process and equipment requirements and specifications.
  • Work with production teams to implement the best practices in handling, mixing, and applying material systems.
  • Suggest process modifications and adjustments to enhance manufacturing efficiency and product quality.
  • Collaborate with internal scientists, engineers, and process operators to design, execute, analyze, and interpret lab-scale, pilot-line, and manufacturing line experiments.
  • Meticulous documentation for the dissemination and retention of technical knowledge, intellectual property generation, and internal technical reporting.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • BS/MS degree in chemistry, materials science, polymer engineering, chemical engineering or equivalent with 5+ years of R&D experience OR PhD in chemistry, materials science, polymer engineering, chemical engineering or equivalent with 2+ years of R&D experience.
  • Experience in chemical formulations for specific applications such as electronics, coatings, or adhesives.
  • Proven ability to apply statistical methods (DOE, SPC, etc.) to product development efforts.
  • Ability to work seamlessly with R&D, process scaling and manufacturing from product ideation through launch.
  • Familiarity with thixotropic and viscoelastic behavior of materials, as well as techniques to adjust and control these properties.
  • Proven ability to work successfully on interdisciplinary, cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to prioritize and remain flexible in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
