About the position

The R D Specialist (MRI Hardware Engineer) at Yale University is responsible for developing and evaluating the performance and reliability of MRI test equipment. This role involves analyzing test results, instructing laboratory staff, and overseeing the construction and modification of MRI hardware components. The position requires collaboration with team members to ensure effective integration of design elements and adherence to project deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and evaluates performance and reliability of test equipment.
  • Determines types and number of tests to be performed on equipment.
  • Recommends modifications to testing equipment and analyzes results.
  • Uses blueprints, sketches, and schematics for design and construction.
  • Instructs laboratory support staff in construction and modification techniques.
  • Develops time and cost estimates, material requirements, and methodology.
  • Orders materials and supplies for projects.
  • Sets up and operates machinery, hand and power tools for fabrication and testing.
  • Oversees support staff as needed.
  • Performs additional functions incidental to research and development.

Requirements

  • Proven experience with gradient coil design in MRI or related fields.
  • Proven experience with gradient coil construction and system integration including coiling systems and mechanical considerations.
  • Proven experience with gradient coil characterization and correction schemes.
  • Excellent team player with strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Proficient in integration of multiple design elements in completing a system application.
  • Demonstrated track record of strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to keep on track and meet deadlines, providing feedback on processes.
