About the position

The Research Assistant (RA) will support Professors Limarys Caraballo and Regina Cortina in conducting research activities aimed at developing a new curriculum's blueprint and design principles. This role requires a commitment of at least 5 hours per week and involves various research-specific tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research searches and literature reviews
  • Assist in the development of instruments for data collection
  • Participate in the data collection
  • Process and organize data
  • Interpret, synthesize, and analyze data
  • Summarize findings
  • Maintain accurate records of research activities, data, and results
  • Prepare progress reports, research summaries, and presentations for team members, project stakeholders, or funding agencies
  • Write and edit materials for publication and presentation (e.g., research papers, conference presentations, and other scholarly publications)
  • Assist with project planning and organization
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of research meetings, and program materials
  • Collaborate with faculty and external partners to foster interdisciplinary collaborations and facilitate knowledge exchange

Requirements

  • Be a matriculated student at Teachers College in a degree program in a related field
  • Abide by the Student Confidentiality Agreement
  • Exercise professional judgment
  • Work independently
  • Show initiative
  • Have strong work ethics and ability to work flexible hours when needed
  • Work successfully with diverse groups of people

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional or research experience or background in Latine/x studies; participatory research; curriculum design, instruction, and assessment; knowledge of the NYS social studies, literacy and STEAM curricula; and/or history and political participation of diverse Latinx communities in NYC
  • Quantitative and qualitative research skills
  • Communication skills including writing and editing research content
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, Qualtrics, NVivo)
