About the position

The Radiation Oncology Animal Health Technician at the University of California, Davis, provides essential technical support for the Radiation Oncology service under the supervision of the Oncology supervisor and faculty. This role involves the treatment of patients with critical illnesses, preparing anesthetic protocols, and monitoring anesthesia. The technician also assists clinicians with the operation of the Linear Accelerator and ensures quality assurance in patient treatment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide anesthesia technical support for patients undergoing treatment.
  • Assist with radiation therapy technical support.
  • Maintain and control facility and equipment inventory.
  • Perform miscellaneous tasks as required.

Requirements

  • Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license.
  • Experience in pre-medicating, inducing, maintaining, and monitoring patients under anesthesia.
  • Experience operating basic anesthesia equipment such as anesthesia machines and ventilators.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and effective communication skills with diverse groups.
  • Experience in monitoring and reassessing emergent or critically ill patients.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of radiation therapy procedures, including external beam radiation.
  • Understanding of basic oncology diseases.
  • Experience in developing anesthesia protocols for patients.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic procedures such as CT, MRI, and digital radiography.
