About The Position

The Radiation Protection Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring safety and compliance in nuclear operations. This position involves operating various equipment for radiation protection, conducting surveys, and maintaining containment areas to prevent the spread of radioactive contamination. The technician will assist in radiological controls during operations and maintenance, prepare reports, and ensure adherence to regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • ANSI 3.1 Certification preferred.
  • 4 years of commercial nuclear experience or related work.
  • Technical understanding of nuclear generation principles and operations.
  • Proficiency with current computer business applications.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment such as waste compactors and decontamination machines.
  • Erect work containment areas to minimize radioactive contamination.
  • Collect samples and perform radiological surveys.
  • Assist in providing radiological controls during operations and maintenance.
  • Prepare reports and log results of surveys.
  • Test survey instruments and operate computer terminals.
  • Perform basic mathematical calculations manually and with a calculator.
  • Maintain qualifications to operate motor vehicles.
  • Conduct routine and special surveys for contamination and radiation.
  • Operate portable instruments for various radiation measurements.
  • Train others in limited scope concerning radiation protection.
  • Perform housekeeping and decontamination of equipment and areas as per regulations.
