About The Position

The Radiation Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with all regulations and licenses related to radiation safety across multiple facilities. This role focuses on protecting employees, customers, and communities by managing and implementing effective radiation safety programs and policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in health or medical physics, nuclear engineering, or other appropriate science-related field of study (minimum).
  • Master's degree in health or medical physics, nuclear engineering, or other appropriate science-related field of study (preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years experience as Radiation Safety Officer or Assistant Radiation Safety Officer.
  • Preferred 5 years experience as Radiation Safety Officer or Assistant Radiation Safety Officer.
  • American Board Health Physics Certification (minimum).

Responsibilities

  • Ensures facilities comply with all regulations, licenses, and other requirements.
  • Identifies issues with radiation protection, recommends, and implements corrective actions.
  • Manages the radiation safety training program to ensure that only authorized, qualified individuals work with radiation.
  • Manages the personnel dosimetry program to limit radiation exposure and ensure compliance with policies and regulatory exposure limits.
  • Investigates incidents or situations that could lead to exposure and finds solutions to prevent similar incidents in the future.
  • Continually reviews and updates facilities' radiation safety program policies.
  • Conducts regular safety training and program audits to identify and fix problem areas.
  • Maintains records of radiation measurements and other relevant information.
  • Leads the Radiation Safety Committee.
  • Oversees the use of radioactive materials at facilities through management of licensing, laboratory surveys, and waste management programs.
  • Reviews and approves requests for radiation permits.
  • Responds to radiation safety emergencies and prepares and submits required reporting.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
