About the position

The Radiation Therapist at Harris Health System plays a crucial role in the treatment of cancer patients by administering high-dose ionizing radiation as prescribed by physicians. This position requires technical expertise in operating radiation therapy equipment, ensuring quality assurance, and providing comprehensive patient care throughout the treatment process. The therapist is responsible for preparing patients, monitoring their clinical progress, and maintaining accurate treatment records.

Responsibilities

  • Administer high-dose ionizing radiation to cancer patients as prescribed by the physician.
  • Evaluate equipment and machine operation for quality assurance.
  • Prepare patients for radiotherapy and observe their clinical progress.
  • Consult with physicians regarding treatment plans and patient care.
  • Maintain daily records and monitor treatment charts for adherence to protocols.
  • Adhere to internal controls established for the department.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED and graduate of a JRCERT accredited program in Radiation Therapy.
  • Certification as a Medical Radiologic Tech with Texas Medical Board (TMB).
  • Basic Life Support certification from an AHA approved program.
  • Certification as a Radiation Therapist with ARRT.
  • Two years of experience in radiation therapy preferred.
  • Above average verbal communication skills and exceptional public speaking abilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Word and personal computer usage.
  • Knowledge of medical terms and analytical skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience with linear accelerators and related equipment (CT Sim, Hexapod, XVI preferred).
