About the position

The Radio System Network Engineer position at the Department of Information Technology (DoIT) is responsible for supporting the MD FIRST Statewide Public Safety Communications System. This role involves assisting the Director with operations support activities, managing network and asset management tasks, and ensuring the system's reliability and interoperability for public safety agencies across Maryland. The engineer will play a critical role in maintaining documentation and providing high-level customer support to MD FIRST users.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director, MD FIRST Projects, in operations support activities for the MD FIRST Statewide Public Safety Communications System.
  • Support day-to-day operations of the MD FIRST radio system.
  • Manage MD FIRST Network and Asset Management activities.
  • Maintain documentation related to MD FIRST support systems.
  • Provide high-level customer support to MD FIRST users.

Requirements

  • Seven years of experience designing and implementing complex data communications or telecommunications networks.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field can substitute for up to four years of experience.
  • Additional graduate education can substitute for required experience at a rate of thirty credit hours for each year.
  • Military service experience in Database Administration can substitute for required experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with radio network technology projects as a project manager or technical team member.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex technical land mobile radio issues and developing effective solutions.
