About the position

The Radio Systems Manager is responsible for overseeing the Marion County Intergovernmental 800 MHz Radio Communications System, which is crucial for providing integrated radio communications for all Fire Departments, Law Enforcement Agencies, and Emergency Medical Services in Marion County. This role encompasses a wide range of management, professional, technical, and administrative tasks that ensure the effective operation and maintenance of the radio communications system. In this position, the manager will direct and manage the County Radio Communications Systems, including the preparation of scopes of work and requests for proposals for the purchase of radio system equipment, maintenance, and repair services. The manager will also be responsible for preparing contract review documentation and supervising the execution of these contracts on a day-to-day basis. A key aspect of the role involves responding to user locations to assist with radio use, training, and equipment repairs as needed. The Radio Systems Manager will develop both short- and long-term plans and strategies for radio requirements in Marion County, which includes preparing the annual operating and capital improvement budget, drafting contractual documents, and evaluating proposals for contract awards. The manager will also oversee the project management of system and facility construction, as well as develop plans for upgrading the 800 MHz radio system to a state-of-the-art system over several phases and interrelated contracts. Additionally, the manager will administer the application of the State of Florida Statute for the Moving Violation Trust Fund to secure necessary funds, review all purchases of radio equipment by county administrative departments, and prepare grant requests for emergency radio equipment to support disaster preparedness. The role also includes serving as the permanent chair of the Marion County 800 MHz Users Group and acting as an ambassador for the County by creating newsworthy articles and conducting public presentations. Customer service is a vital component of this position, as the manager will interact with the general public and other County employees, providing assistance in person or via phone contact. The manager is expected to implement the organization's guiding principles and core values while performing other related job duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Science or related technical field or equivalent.
  • Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience related to Motorola trunked radio systems planning, development, implementation, and operation.
  • Possession of a valid, State of Florida driver's license.
