The Radio Systems Manager is responsible for overseeing the Marion County Intergovernmental 800 MHz Radio Communications System, which is crucial for providing integrated radio communications for all Fire Departments, Law Enforcement Agencies, and Emergency Medical Services in Marion County. This role encompasses a wide range of management, professional, technical, and administrative tasks that ensure the effective operation and maintenance of the radio communications system. In this position, the manager will direct and manage the County Radio Communications Systems, including the preparation of scopes of work and requests for proposals for the purchase of radio system equipment, maintenance, and repair services. The manager will also be responsible for reviewing contracts, supervising their execution, and responding to user locations to assist with radio use, training, and equipment repairs as needed. The Radio Systems Manager will develop both short- and long-term plans for radio requirements, which includes preparing annual operating and capital improvement budgets, evaluating proposals, and managing system and facility construction projects. Additionally, the manager will strategize upgrades to the 800 MHz radio system, ensuring it evolves into a state-of-the-art system through multiple phases and interrelated contracts over several years. The role also involves administering the application of the State of Florida Statute for the Moving Violation Trust Fund to secure necessary funds, reviewing all purchases of radio equipment by county departments, and preparing grant requests for emergency radio equipment to support disaster preparedness. As a permanent chair of the Marion County 800 MHz Users Group, the manager will serve as an ambassador for the County, creating newsworthy articles and conducting public presentations. Customer service is a key component of this role, as the manager will interact with the general public and other County employees, providing assistance in person or via phone contact. The position requires the implementation of the organization's guiding principles and core values, along with the performance of other related duties as assigned.
