About the position

At CHI Health Mercy Corning, our mission has been to nurture and enhance the quality of life for residents of Adams and Taylor counties in Iowa. We provide comprehensive care in familiar surroundings, from emergency care to early disease detection and rehabilitation for seniors. Our medical staff offers a wide range of specialties, ensuring quality care with advanced technology. The position involves operating diagnostic equipment and performing various technical diagnostic imaging procedures related to CT. The role includes patient orientation, procedure explanation, and pre and post-diagnostic care. The technician will perform complete diagnostic imaging tests, including patient positioning, equipment calibration, and documentation of findings, under the direction of the imaging supervisor/manager. Additionally, the technician will assist patients with basic care needs.

Responsibilities

  • Performs CT exams on patients according to departmental procedure protocols under the direction of the Medical Director.
  • Prepares equipment ensuring that it is operational, safe, and functioning according to diagnostic standards.
  • Problem-solves equipment failure and imaging quality issues, contacting service representatives as needed.
  • Ensures daily equipment and room maintenance are performed during/after each procedure, adhering to infection control standards.
  • Completes all quality checks and maintains equipment logs.
  • Completes clinical supply inventories to ensure diagnostic rooms are stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Actively participates in patient testing, handling routine, non-routine, urgent, and emergent requests.
  • Reviews physician orders to verify the type of diagnostic test requested and its indication.
  • Communicates with Radiologist to obtain proper exam protocol/test design.
  • Provides specific diagnostic test information to patients, ensuring they understand the procedure.
  • Performs Point of Care testing for lab tests according to hospital guidelines.
  • Effectively starts IVs following hospital guidelines.
  • Completes the diagnostic examination and all image post-processing.
  • Demonstrates competency in PACS process and performs daily QA process.
  • Completes image processing, including supporting documentation of logs and demographic information required for records.
  • Responsible for monitoring and recording radiation dose levels.
  • Notifies Radiologist of any diagnostic findings that warrant communication.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Radiologic Technology program.
  • BLS required upon hire.
  • ARRT Board Certified in Radiology (RTR).
  • Must hold a valid Medical Radiography or General Radiology Technologist Permit to Practice license in Nebraska or Iowa depending on work state (MRAD:NE or MRAD:IA).
  • ARRT Board Certified in CT within 2 years of hire (RTCT -24mths).
