About the position

The Radiology Assistant at UChicago Medicine plays a crucial role in providing patient care and technical assistance within the Imaging Team at the Orland Park clinic. This part-time position involves a variety of responsibilities aimed at enhancing patient experience and operational efficiency in radiology services.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes appropriate care protocols for patients of all ages including neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric.
  • Performs direct patient care duties as assigned by the Registered Radiology Technologist (RRT).
  • Prepares patients for radiographic testing.
  • Assists in image acquisition, film processing, and delivery of images into the PACS.
  • Sets up and maintains clinical facilities and equipment, including inventory management.
  • Observes and monitors patient reactions during tests and communicates changes to the RRT.
  • Assists the RRT and/or physician with examinations or diagnostic procedures.
  • Performs computer functions related to the Radiology Information System (RIS).
  • Communicates effectively with the RRT, Imaging Team Leader, and Physician to enhance patient care quality.
  • Coordinates patient transportation as needed.
  • Incorporates cost-effective measures into practice.
  • Learns and performs ancillary services such as darkroom operations and film digitization.
  • Acts during emergencies, initiates CPR, and provides necessary items for emergency response.
  • Assists with the orientation of new employees and participates in CQI projects.
  • Collects data for research studies and attends educational programs to enhance clinical practice.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Previous experience in Radiology Imaging, Nurse Assistant, Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy, EKG, or basic respiratory therapy functions is beneficial.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions with minimal supervision.
  • Computer skills for data input and management.
  • Effective verbal and non-verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • CPR training required; BLS training recommended.
