About the position

The Radiology Intern at Beebe Healthcare is responsible for performing radiographic procedures in accordance with established professional and departmental standards. This role is designed for individuals who are in training and require hands-on experience in a clinical setting, focusing on patient care and safety while adhering to radiation safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of Radiologic principles and theory, anatomy and pathology processes utilizing the most appropriate technique and/or positioning for optimal examinations.
  • Adheres to department policies and protocols ensuring all examinations are optimized for interpretation.
  • Demonstrates the ability and skills to assist in teaching radiography students sound radiography principles as required by the organization.
  • Communicates effectively with patients to obtain clinical history and informed consent to assist the physician in optimizing the performance and interpretation of the examination.
  • Explains procedures to patients/families and answers any questions to ease anxiety and assure patient cooperation.
  • Recognizes clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams and takes appropriate action to resolve them.
  • Correctly identifies patients and their files ensuring a high degree of accuracy.
  • Tracks patients according to department procedures and identifies errors, taking immediate action for corrections.
  • Maintains exposure reading within the As Low As Reasonably Achievable limits.
  • Demonstrates effective use of radiation protection procedures with collimation devices and protective shielding.
  • Reports, documents, and corrects any adverse, unsafe, or unusual conditions.
  • Maintains an orderly, safe, and clean environment, ensuring rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies.
  • Operates imaging and other related equipment according to manufacturer's specifications.
  • Demonstrates initiative to stay abreast of technological changes and updates.
  • Participates in department/hospital performance improvement initiatives, in-services, and meetings.

Requirements

  • Recent hospital experience preferred as a Radiologist Technologist.
  • Participation in a JCERT accredited school of radiology.
  • Successful completion of Delaware Limited State Radiation License Exam.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Capability to perform on-call, shift, holiday, and weekends when required.
