About the position

The Radiology Tech II position at Kaiser Permanente involves performing a variety of standard radiographic procedures in a safe and efficient manner. The role requires the technician to review and transmit films and reports to the appropriate physicians, ensuring that all necessary information is accurately communicated. In addition to technical responsibilities, the position includes reception and clerical duties within the Radiology Department, as well as the preparation of required departmental reports. The technician is responsible for preparing patients for radiographic procedures by accurately assessing their needs and providing necessary education. This includes performing both radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures, demonstrating skills for IV placement, and injecting contrast materials. The role also involves operating computer and radiographic equipment for image production and documentation, as well as performing quality control measures to ensure optimal image quality. The technician must enter and complete all patient information, including exam charges and supplies, into the Radiology Information System (RIS) and/or other Kaiser Permanente applications. Timeliness and accuracy are crucial, as the technician prepares films for interpretation by the radiologist. Flexibility and adaptability to the unique needs of the department are essential, as is effective communication with other healthcare providers to ensure quality care. The technician must adhere to safety measures in radiography, follow universal precautions, and comply with all governing regulations. Additional responsibilities may include stocking and cleaning exam rooms, taking rotational call for after-hours facilities, and potentially providing clinical instruction to student technologists. The technician is expected to apply the profession's code of ethics in all aspects of practice.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for radiographic procedures by assessing needs and providing education.
  • Performs radiographic and/or fluoroscopic procedures.
  • Completes scheduled and unscheduled work to maximize productivity.
  • Demonstrates skills for IV placement and injection of contrast materials.
  • Operates computer and radiographic equipment for image production and documentation.
  • Performs quality control measures to ensure optimal quality images.
  • Enters and completes all patient information into the Radiology Information System (RIS).
  • Prepares films for interpretation by the radiologist in a timely manner.
  • Communicates abnormal situations to proper sources for resolution.
  • Engages with other healthcare providers to ensure quality and continuity of care.
  • Follows department procedures, processes, and policies.
  • Practices safety measures in radiography and adheres to regulations.
  • Stocks and cleans exam rooms and work areas.
  • Takes rotational call for after-hours facilities and covers if unable to take call.
  • May be responsible for clinical instruction of student technologists.

Requirements

  • One (1) year experience as a Radiological Technologist.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Radiologic Technologist Certification.
  • General knowledge of EH&S, OSHA, DHR, Radiation Safety and Protection.
  • General knowledge of exam protocols.
  • Basic PC skills (keyboarding & navigation).

Nice-to-haves

  • Two (2) years experience as a Radiologic Technologist.
