About the position

The Cardiovascular Invasive Special Procedures Tech provides competent, proficient, technical support during diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization procedures, implementing procedural standards and protocols. This role includes functioning as scrub assistant, circulator, and monitor technician on a rotating basis during procedures, assisting physicians during interventional procedures with complex interventional devices, and collecting, analyzing, and interpreting hemodynamic and oximetric data. The tech anticipates the needs of the scrub team for sterile supplies and equipment, observes sterile technique, processes digital imaging, and demonstrates competence in the operation of imaging and physiological monitoring equipment. Additionally, the tech provides patient care specific to procedural requirements and patient needs under the supervision of physicians and Cath Lab nursing personnel, performs basic patient assessments, and documents procedural events chronologically.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical support during diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization procedures.
  • Functions as scrub assistant, circulator, and monitor technician on a rotating basis.
  • Assists physician during interventional procedures with complex interventional devices.
  • Collects, analyzes, and interprets hemodynamic and oximetric data.
  • Anticipates needs of scrub team for sterile supplies and equipment.
  • Observes sterile technique when prepping, scrubbing, draping, assisting, and circulating.
  • Processes digital imaging and demonstrates ability to view and transfer images.
  • Demonstrates competence in the operation of imaging and physiological monitoring equipment.
  • Administers medication in accordance with medication administration policy.
  • Performs basic patient assessment and preparation for procedures.
  • Documents procedural events chronologically in the procedural record.
  • Performs post-procedure ACT determination, sheath removal, and hemostasis.
  • Assists with implementation of hemostatic devices.
  • Provides support and education to patients, families, and other healthcare team members.
  • Maintains a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.
  • Complies with established radiation safety standards and infection control standards.
  • Demonstrates the ability to interact and cooperate with all customers.
  • Maintains professional growth, self-development objectives, and skill enhancement.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the organization by supporting and adapting to changes.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Radiology.
  • Employee must pass RT Boards (Registry Exam) within 6 months of graduation.
  • Typically requires 2 years of experience in an Interventional Radiology and/or Cath Lab Tech role.
  • Current RT license in State of Illinois and current AART registry.
  • BCLS certification.
  • Intermediate computer skills, film-processing skills, hemodynamic interpretation skills, basic patient assessment skills, IV therapy skills.
