Under the direction of the Leader of Imaging Services, the technologist performs radiographic procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs all activities in an ethical and professional manner.

Responsibilities

  • Selects and operates all radiology equipment as directed and provides protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
  • Explains procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation.
  • Checks patient's chart to confirm order and checks arm bands to confirm identity.
  • Moves X-ray equipment into specified position and adjusts equipment controls to set exposure factors such as time and distance.
  • Practices sterile techniques and prevents cross-contamination.
  • Operates mobile X-ray equipment in Operating Room, Emergency Room, or at patient's bedside.
  • Cleans all equipment before and after each patient use. Portable equipment to be cleaned upon entering and leaving patient area.
  • Determines use of slider board to move patients of all ages when needed; uses heel and elbow protectors for geriatric patients as needed; uses table pads as needed and considers pathology such as emphysema, osteoporosis, etc. in techniques used.
  • Evaluates patient's condition and responds appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Operates CR units in Radiology and transfers images to PACS. Routes images and burns CDs as needed.
  • Checks supplies in radiology rooms and notifies supervisor of any needed supplies.

Requirements

  • Associates or better in Radiology or related field
  • BLS certification
  • SC Rad Qlty Stds Assoc certification
