About the position

The Radiology Technologist Non-Registered Relief position at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission involves providing healthcare services by applying x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment. The role requires performing radiographic procedures and related techniques to produce images for interpretation by a licensed Radiologist. The Radiologic Tech Non-Reg must exercise professional judgment in the performance of services while maintaining a demeanor that aligns with medical ethics. This position emphasizes the importance of patient care, recognizing patient conditions that are essential for the successful completion of procedures. The radiographic procedures include the discipline of Diagnostic Radiology, and the technologist will work under the guidance of a registered Radiologic Technologist. In this role, the Radiologic Tech Non-Reg will be responsible for preparing patients for procedures, providing necessary instructions to obtain desired results, and minimizing patient anxiety. The position also requires maintaining knowledge of and observing universal precautions, demonstrating a commitment to personal and professional development, and pursuing appropriate continuing education. The technologist will need to incorporate patient, physician, and customer needs into decision-making and organizational actions, ensuring that patients are positioned correctly to demonstrate the anatomic area of interest while respecting their comfort and ability. Additional responsibilities include applying principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patients, self, and others, and presenting radiographs to a registered technologist for evaluation. The technologist will also assume responsibility for the physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures, practice aseptic techniques, and prepare for sterile procedures. In emergency situations, the technologist must initiate basic life support actions and monitor patient vital signs, knowing when to notify a radiology nurse or radiologist of any patient condition that requires attention. The role also involves operating radiology equipment proficiently, troubleshooting issues with orders, and maintaining records while respecting confidentiality. The technologist will be expected to follow AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank) at all times and effectively implement assigned projects and responsibilities. This position is PRN (as needed) with varied shifts, allowing for flexibility in scheduling.

Responsibilities

  • Perform radiographic/imaging procedures under the guidance of a Radiologic Technologist.
  • Assist licensed practitioner with fluoroscopic and specialized interventional radiology procedures.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
  • Maintain knowledge of and observe universal precautions.
  • Demonstrate commitment to personal and professional development and pursue appropriate continuing education.
  • Incorporate patient, physician, customer needs and concerns into decision-making and organizational action.
  • Position patients to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient's ability and comfort.
  • Immobilize patients as required for appropriate examination.
  • Apply principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
  • Present radiographs to a registered technologist for evaluation of images/radiographs, assuring proper identification is recorded.
  • Assume responsibility for provision of physical and psychological needs of patients during procedures.
  • Practice aseptic techniques as necessary and prepare for sterile procedures.
  • Initiate basic life support action when necessary and exhibit knowledge and skills for monitoring patient vital signs and assessment.
  • Provide patient education and establish whether female patients are or could be pregnant.
  • Assume responsibility for assigned area and report equipment malfunctions.
  • Correlate patient's clinical history with procedure, assuring information is documented and available for use by licensed practitioner.
  • Determine radiographic imaging technique and exposure factors under the guidance of a radiologic technologist.
  • Assist in maintaining records, respecting confidentiality and established policy.
  • Follow AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank) at all times.
  • Operate Cerner System proficiently, troubleshoot problems with orders, and make corrections within scope of user level.
  • Select and operate radiology equipment, imaging and/or associate accessories to successfully perform procedures.
  • Perform non-interpretive fluoroscopic procedures as appropriate (i.e., ERCP, OR procedures, patient status check, foreign body/metal check).
  • Evaluate images for technical quality, manipulate display parameters, assuring proper identification is recorded as specified by imaging procedure.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a technical school.
  • National Registry - ARRT within 1 year of employment.
  • Kansas LRT License after obtaining ARRT Certification.
  • BCLS obtained through the American Heart Association.
