About the position

AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Rail Engineer for immediate employment in our established World Class Rail Engineering Department in Rocky Hill, CT. The Rail Team engages and works side by side with career rail professionals throughout the US delivering projects for high profile transit clients with a focus on electrification and overhead catenary systems (OCS). This position offers the ideal candidate long-term job stability with an extensive backlog of projects spanning 4-5 years, exposure to the rapidly expanding Rail Electrification sector, and an upward career trajectory supported by several seasoned engineers. The opportunity to contribute to heavy rail, commuter rail, intercity passenger rail, and higher speed rail projects of all sizes from planning through final design and construction is also available. The team utilizes the latest software to deliver fast-paced, multi-discipline designs to meet the unique needs of a diverse pool of clients. AECOM prides itself on building and retaining a high caliber staff to continually meet client expectations on high profile projects. The ideal candidate is adaptable, driven to learn the latest software and design methods, and interested in being exposed to a variety of projects.

Responsibilities

  • Be an integral member of a rail design group of 6-8 employees.
  • Build analytic and design skills.
  • Conduct engineering design independently and/or under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Prepare plans, specifications, and cost estimates for railroad systems projects for private and public-sector clients.
  • Collect and analyze data.
  • Use computer software as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.
  • Perform work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule.
  • Participate in proposal development and other marketing activities.
  • Direct engineers-in-training, designers, and technicians.
  • Provide assistance to the Project Manager.
  • Perform quality control reviews and design checks of railroad projects.
  • May require periodic travel for client visits, site visits, field assessments and construction inspections, as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering plus 4 years civil/rail engineering experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records review.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience using MicroStation, InRoads, OpenRoads, or OpenRail, and AutoCAD.
  • Experience with design and/or construction of overhead catenary systems.
  • Engineer in Training Certification (EIT).
