About the position

The Rail Engineering Manager at AECOM will provide technical and management leadership in rail engineering, overseeing a team of project managers and engineers. This role involves making authoritative decisions, managing major rail projects, and developing marketing strategies to target rail clients. The position requires strong leadership skills, creativity, and the ability to mentor staff while ensuring alignment with AECOM's core values and culture.

Responsibilities

  • Provides engineering technical and management leadership for a discipline or area of responsibility.
  • Makes decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative.
  • Initiates and maintains extensive contacts with senior-level engineers within the company and with key engineering officials of other organizations.
  • Demonstrates creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in solving engineering problems and developing standards for diverse engineering activities.
  • Builds and leads a rail engineering group of 3-5 project managers and engineers.
  • Performs project management responsibilities on major rail projects and becomes a certified AECOM project manager within 6 months of hire date.
  • Develops and executes a strong marketing plan to target rail RFP's and sole sourced work from rail clients.
  • Leads Client Account Planning for Class I Railroad clients and TxDOT Rail Division.
  • Mentors staff to learn, enjoy and grow in their roles.

Requirements

  • BA/BS + 12 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education, including 4 years of leadership.
  • Proven ability to collaborate and coordinate with planning, construction, and design teams consisting of multi-discipline design engineers and technicians.
  • Excellent client account management and project coordination skills.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent communication and writing skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • PE License in Texas with additional licensure in multiple states or able to obtain such within a year of employment.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in rail design.
