About the position

The Rail Vehicle Electrical Engineer position at STV in Philadelphia, PA, is designed for individuals with a minimum of 5 years of experience in rail vehicle system engineering. This role involves providing technical support and advice on various rail vehicle projects, including light rail, heavy rail, and high-speed rail vehicles across North America. The engineer will be responsible for analyzing systems, developing specifications, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements while collaborating with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth analysis and evaluation of rail vehicle systems and components.
  • Develop technical specifications for procurement, overhaul, and retrofit of passenger rail vehicles.
  • Review design submittals for compliance with technical specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluate manufacturing and design methods for adherence to best practices.
  • Collaborate with clients, carbuilders, and industry organizations to provide technical support.
  • Support proposal efforts with relevant technical knowledge.
  • Prepare reports documenting findings and recommendations.
  • Participate in first article inspections and qualification tests.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in rail rolling-stock vehicle systems or related fields.
  • Proven expertise in rail rolling-stock on-board network-based communications and diagnostics systems.
  • General understanding of on-board train subsystems and their integration with diagnostics systems.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory environment impacting passenger rail procurement in North America.
  • Familiarity with software development processes and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of on-board passenger information systems.
  • Experience with on-board and wayside components for train to wayside communications.
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) and/or Professional Engineer (PE) license.
