About the position

As a Steel Designer specializing in railings, balconies, and stairs, you will play a crucial role in preparing cost designs by collaborating closely with the estimating team. Your primary responsibility will be to analyze proposals and requirements while drafting detailed designs for fabricated metal and construction projects. This position demands a high level of attention to detail, dependability, and integrity, as you will be expected to maintain thoroughness in your work and uphold ethical standards. You will also need to demonstrate cooperation and self-control, ensuring a pleasant working environment even in challenging situations. In this role, you will initiate projects by working with Construction Estimators, reviewing the scope of work, timelines, and other relevant information. Utilizing AutoCAD, you will draft designs based on project details, adhering to American Fence and client-specific standards. Effective communication with clients and the project team is essential, as you will be responsible for maintaining dynamic communication regarding scheduling and project timeline priorities. Additionally, you will develop and draft architectural and engineering details and plans, assist management in preparing proposals, and generate correspondence for clients and managers. Fieldwork will also be a part of your responsibilities, including documentation, research, and drafting tasks of architectural and engineering data as requested. You will participate in team meetings to address project issues such as coordination, scheduling, and technical concerns, while also documenting time and expenses according to company policy. Fostering a culture of client service, both external and internal, will be a key aspect of your role.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Construction Estimators to initiate projects by reviewing scope of work, timelines, and other relevant information.
  • Utilize AutoCAD to draft designs based on project details in accordance with American Fence and/or client-specific standards.
  • Maintain dynamic communication with clients and the project team regarding scheduling and project timeline priorities.
  • Develop and draft architectural and engineering details and plans, assist management in preparing proposals, and generate correspondence for clients and managers.
  • Perform fieldwork, documentation, research, and drafting tasks of architectural and engineering data as requested by clients or managers.
  • Participate in team meetings to help resolve project issues such as coordination, scheduling, and technical concerns.
  • Document time and expenses using American Fence's current policy.
  • Foster a culture of external and internal client service.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1+ year(s) of 2D experience in AutoCAD required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Prompt, organized, detail-oriented, and team-driven.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office, G Suite, and email.
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans/blueprints is a plus.
  • Construction Management experience is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the metal fabrication field/construction industry is a huge plus.
  • Experience working with outside parties on projects that contain budgets and deadlines.
