About the position

The Railroad Bridge Design Engineer position at Modjeski and Masters, Inc. involves working on the structural design, evaluation, and rehabilitation of various types of railroad bridges. The role is part of a team that focuses on innovative engineering solutions for both new and existing structures, including fixed, movable, girder, truss, and arch bridges. Engineers in this position will engage in a variety of challenging projects, collaborating with clients and contributing to the development of new techniques and standards in bridge engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural design and detailing of railroad bridge components as a primary project engineer with limited guidance.
  • Assist Project Managers in identifying project issues and developing solutions.
  • Supervise the work of Junior Engineers on projects.
  • Perform tasks on multiple, concurrent projects.
  • Conduct field and construction service assignments as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited College or University.
  • For Entry Level Positions: Valid EI certification or in the process of obtaining it.
  • For Mid-Level Positions: Within 6 months of obtaining a valid PE license.
  • Knowledge of railroad bridge analysis, design, and detailing methods based on the AREMA Manual.
  • Familiarity with CADD software, Microsoft Office Software, and structural analysis software.
  • Effective leadership and communication skills necessary to lead teams of engineers and technicians.
  • Problem-solving skills to resolve design and detailing issues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in railroad bridge design and detailing methods.
  • Previous work experience in a similar engineering role.
