About the position

The Signal and Train Control Railroad Safety Inspector position at the Public Utility Commission (PUC) involves inspecting signal, train control, and highway-rail grade crossing warning systems to ensure compliance with federal and state safety regulations. The role requires planning and conducting field inspections within an assigned territory, working independently and collaboratively with railroads, and attending necessary training. This position is crucial for maintaining safety standards in the railroad industry.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and carry out an itinerary of field inspections and investigations.
  • Participate in conferences at highway-rail grade crossings to assess construction, relocation, or alterations.
  • Review highway-rail crossing situation plans, signals, and circuit plans submitted by the carrier for approval.
  • Perform final inspections on projects installed under the federal program according to federal highway administration guidelines.

Requirements

  • Four years of railroad experience in track maintenance and safety inspections.
  • Four years of railroad experience in locomotive and rail car maintenance and safety inspections.
  • Four years of railroad experience in train movement, management, handling, and operating practices.
  • Four years of railroad experience in signal and train control maintenance and safety inspections.
  • Possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.

Benefits

  • Alternate work schedule may be available after a 6-month probationary period.
  • Work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM with a 60-minute lunch.
